Our route runs from Herschel Island and along the ocean ice until Shingle Point. Then we'll come inland, into the Mackenzie
Delta, heading for Aklavik, a Gwich'in and Inuvialuit settlement with a population of 750; it was first established in 1912
as a Hudson's Bay post for fur trading. From Akalvik we'll travel through the Mackenzie Delta (an aerial view of which is
in the picture at the top of this page) to Fort McPherson, where the men of the Lost Patrol are buried. The Dempster Highway
crosses our route here, so this will be a resupply point for us. We'll then follow the Peel and Wind Rivers south, before
portaging over to Waugh Creek (it was at this point that Fitzgerald and his men became lost), and then to the Blackstone and
Chandindu (also called Twelvemile) Rivers, to Dawson City.
